Vis Com. (4th Oct-8th Oct)

This week, I have been learning more about Visual Communication....

In the very first project (IDEAS, IDEAS, IDEAS)(one day project) I was told to work with a partner...and my parter is Edward... in this project...we both were given a word and asked to draw anything we can think of about the word...the word that i was given is CHAIR...
In the beginning, I drew some REAL chairs...like designer chairs, wheelchairs, stools and some sofa.....afterwards i discussed with my partner and i got some awesome ideas for the word CHAIR....
I started drawing a chair made out of hair...because i saw the word "HAIR" in CHAIR....haha...xDD" and i also draw a chair made out the word CHAIR....with light bulbs....the reason that i added light bulbs are because i used light bulbs to be a metaphor of my "IDEAS" of the word "CHAIR"

Then, I need to combine my "CHAIR" with edward's "FLY" and tried to figure out more ideas with these two words....
At first, i drawn a few "flying chairs" such as....chair with wings, chair with balloons
and even the chair we seat when we are on the plane....etc....After a few more drawings....i started to draw a spider map about anything that i thought about the 2 words "CHAIR" and "FLY"....at last i think about something like freedom, escaping from your comfort chair, lanterns(because it represents hope and dreams in chinese tradition)
At last i came out with the composition under...... the colorful lanterns actually represent dreams are exciting, lovely and which floats to the sky with all the wishes...and the chairs which are falling to the ground represent comfort place are boring(that's the reason of why it is in the color black. The chair is falling to show that people is leaving and getting away from their comfort zones to purchase their dreams....and escaping from what they normally do....
the feedback i got from one of the teachers ....i remember he said those chairs in black attract people first before the lanterns in the drawings...he thinks the lanterns should be the main focus of the drawing... He said if i want to improve the composition...it is better to change some of the drawn lanterns into real photos which can become a collage and represent the success of the dreams and wishes....(because lanterns become real)

The second project is IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE (3 days project)

In this project, i chose "Improved" to be the title of my final work.....when i am brain storming for ideas, i read some articles and i found one article which take my mind in it.....The article (Chinese newspaper) is basically about a group of people who lived in a village are forced to leave their homes, because the government want the land for development....when i linked these together....i found my ideas for  "improved"....then i worked on this idea and start developing it.....At last i came out with the final project!!(right hand sided)


In this project, i separated the stories into 4 different sections, the first one is the one in the right handed corner...which i drew a lot of skyline of buildings on a photograph of an old building....here i want to show how the government is planning on to work on those old buildings for new developments...the second one is the one with speech bubbles and loads of people with no faces....the speech bubbles are empty because i want ppl to notice that the ppl who lives in the village doesn't really have the rights to talk and argue...and the ppl have no faces, because i want to show that they are like nobody to the government...they don't really cares about them...the highlighted sentences are the words from the producer and government....which i want to show only the words by the government is 
IMPORTANT

the third one is the one with all those hands covering mouths....in this section i want to show how the "improved" city will bring to the citizens. The things that pops to my mind is overpopulated and pollutions, because all the green areas are "improved" to become a new urban areas....
the last one is the one with all those people crying or smiling....in this last section i want to show how the old buildings are destroyed to build new settlements...and i make the building fading to become  a little girl crying...in here i want to show that these new settlement makes some ppl cry and some ppl happy....but i put more sad faces on which show my feelings of those old buildings...

After that, I got some feedbacks from my classmates and they are John and Iris...=)
They both agreed that they loved the how i experiment on the gel medium technique and the composition of the series....but it would be better if i include more colors in my final product...they also suggested that i can try to make it 3D instead of sticking into 2D sides..
